Mexico launching dumping investigation of Chinese steel wire rodThe Mexican Government is conducting an anti-dumping probe on imports of steel wire rod from Chinese companies.

An on-line report citing notification of the action in Mexico’s Official Gazette said that the investigation was launched at the request of Mexican manufacturers ArcelorMittal Las Truchas, Deacero, and Ternium Mexico, who allege that Chinese steel wire rod has been “dumped” in Mexico. The investigation covers the period between January 1, 2012, and March 31, 2015.

Per the report, the imports of Chinese steel wire rod increased significantly during the investigation period, both in absolute terms and relative to the size of the Mexican market, thereby harming domestic producers. The Secretariat of Economy said that there is sufficient evidence that Chinese steel wire rod has been sold at unfair prices in Mexico. The Secretariat said that imports of steel wire rod from China grew 282% in the period under review, and their share of domestic consumption grew by 6.7% points.
