HUBER+SUHNER Cube Optics AG will showcase its latest ultra-compact integrated multi-lambda 200 GbpsPAM4 Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly (ROSA), compatible with the 200G and 400GBase-FR8 standard at the OFC 2018 in San Diego, USA.
Cube Optics will present a live demo at its booth, highlighting the performance of this novel technology.
The ROSA yields superior performance in a robust and reliable design.
With its miniature size of only 15.5 x 6.5 x 5.8 mm and typical power consumption of barely 900 mW, the ROSA sets the standard for the next-generation of pluggable transceivers in data center and LAN applications.
The ROSA incorporates an optical de-multiplexer, integrated four PIN detectors and an array quad Trans-Impedance Amplifier (TIA) of extreme linearity supporting the PAM4 (Pulse-Amplitude-Modulation, 4 levels) modulation format.
The optical signal it receives is four optically multiplexed signals over a single fiber utilizing the 1295.56, 1300.05, 1304.58, 1309.14 nm channels of the LAN WDM IEEE grid, each propagating at 28 GBdps.
After de-multiplexing, opto-electronic conversion and amplification, it outputs four lanes of electrical data each at rates of up to 50 Gbps.
As such, the device constitutes the complete ROSA function for 200GBase-LR4 transceivers.
By combining two ROSAs with different LAN WDM filter sub-sets, it empowers 400GBase-FR8 CFP8 transceivers, operating at 50Gbps on 8 lanes.
The core optical element, comprising a compact directly-reflecting multiplexing architecture, draws on Cube Optics’ intellectual property and the company’s fabrication expertise.
The ROSA modules are currently available for customer sampling and volume production will start in Q3 2018.
