ArcelorMittal will provide steel wire rope for French cable car system

bobinebourgArcelorMittal WireSolutions operation in Bourg-en-Bresse, France, will supply steel wire rope for the country’s first urban cable car, being constructed in the city of Brest.

A press release said that ArcelorMittal is the sole supplier of the ropes, and that it is one of just two producers in Europe that integrates optic fibers in full-lock coil (FLC) to enable data transmission. The company will supply two 25 mm haul ropes and four 50 mm full lock coil ropes with 12 optical fibers in each rope, the latter of which allows several functions in the same component. The release noted that, “Once the reserve of ski resorts, cable cars are becoming popular ways to navigate cities around the world – from Rio de Janeiro, to London and Singapore.”
