Fugro to install cables at the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, UK

fugro-cablesNetherland’s Fugro signed a contract for the installation and burial of array cables at the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm. The development in the English Channel, 13 km off the Sussex coast, is being built by E.ON alongside partners, the UK Green Investment Bank.

The engineering and planning will start immediately with installation being carried out in two phases in 2016 and 2017. Fugro will lay and bury 122 array cables with its construction and installation vessels Fugro Symphony and Fugro Saltire and using one of its two Q1400 trenching systems to bury the cables.

South Korea’s LS Cable will supply the subsea cable, while the UK’s JDR Cable will supply the cable array connecting the turbines. Switzerland’s ABB will provide power infrastructure for the offshore platform as well as the onshore substation to integrate the new wind farm into the UK’s transmission grid. ABB will also extend an existing substation that will receive the wind power.

The Rampion Offshore Wind Farm will consist of 116 turbines, each with a generating capacity of 3.45 MW. Construction is expected to be completed in 2018.
